Donal O'Donovan: The right ideas can give crisis airport lift-off again
FREE at long last. But Shannon needs a big idea fast if it is to survive as a go-it-alone airport clinging to the western edge of a crumbling Europe.
Last night saw a broad outpouring of support, even of relief, in the mid-west region for the decision to finally free Shannon Airport from direct Dublin control.
Some of the cheering might be prompted by knee-jerk localism -- after all, Shannon sits in a region that is also home to a stone-age tomb called the Graves of the Leinstermen and the (once) dreaded Thomond Park.
