While the attack on London Bridge and the nearby Borough Market area was ended by armed police eight minutes after it began, it spread maximum terror.

Coming so close after the Manchester attack, it capitalises on the fear caused by the multiple deaths in the suicide bombing.

Killing people on the street up close and personal - particularly by cutting throats and leaving people mutilated but still alive - is, in many respects, a more terrifying experience than dealing with the aftermath of a bomb blast.
