IN Cormac McCarthy's post apocalyptic novel, 'The Road', readers accompany a father and son on a harrowing journey across a landscape scorched by an unnamed catastrophe.

In Ireland, there is no mystery about the apparent catastrophe that awaits us if the work of the National Asset Management Agency is impeded.

Yesterday the Department of Finance showed us once again the scorched economic landscape we face if NAMA is struck down by developer Paddy McKillen or any recalcitrant debtor in its midst.
