Dearbhail McDonald: Complex relationships mean we need more transparency, not less

BACK from bankruptcy, former minister Ivan Yates claimed this week that AIB refused to accept anything except a 100pc repayment of his €3m plus debts.

The broadcaster, in hock to the bailed-out bank after his Celtic bookmakers business went bust, claimed that AIB rejected a 2011 deal that would have yielded it up to 86 cent in the euro on its debts and would have netted it €1m more than it now stands to make.

AIB has insisted that it made efforts to negotiate with Yates.
