David Quinn: Children are the ones suffering as a result of our ideology of choice
The Government fancies that it is pro-child. It believes this because it managed to pass a referendum on the rights of the child a few weeks ago. But it is not pro-child. No government that is truly pro-child could ever contemplate passing a piece of legislation that will permit abortion. Yet this is what it will do within the next few months.
The minister chiefly responsible for passing the recent referendum was the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald. Frances Fitzgerald is a kind, decent, good-hearted person who believes in her heart of hearts that she is pro-child. And at a subjective level she is pro-child.
This is what made her speech in the Dail a few days ago in favour of the Government's planned abortion legislation so extraordinary.
