David McKittrick: Enthusiastic audiences lap up Obama vision of a shared future

The atmosphere was so good in Belfast that even before US President Barack Obama spoke, excited young people broke into Mexican waves that engulfed even normally reserved figures such as Gerry Adams.

Many in the youthful audience, which gave Mr Obama two standing ovations, were more than a little star-struck.

Mr Obama stopped off in the city on his way to the G8 summit in Co Fermanagh.
