Daniel McConnell: Now it's fine to burn the bondholders – just not ours

A write-down for Ireland is now unlikely, making us suckers again

This weekend, the infamous and controversial €440bn bank guarantee has come to an end, and lo and behold the sky hasn't fallen in.

The water in Dublin is cut off at night, but that may not be related.

This weekend, too, was the due date for the politically toxic €3.1bn promissory note payment, but that has been deferred until 2252 or something like that.
