Convincing people to make the switch is still the big challenge

WHEN Pat Kenny joined Newstalk and the station prepared to reprise his mid-morning slot on its own wavelength, a big ad campaign was rolled out with the slogan 'Move the Dial'.

Bold, direct and expensive, it was clear that Newstalk was hoping that this would be the battering ram that would finally break it out of the marginal percentage audience share and into the mainstream.

But the message of the campaign went to the kernel of the Newstalk dilemma, which is getting the public to 'move the dial' from its near permanent position of being tuned in to our national broadcaster.
