Just over 12 months ago, Enda Kenny appointed a 'junior team' that ensured the longevity of his political career.

By handing positions to the majority of his parliamentary party, Mr Kenny could sleep easy knowing that a future heave was highly unlikely.

It may have been a cynical strategy from the public's perspective, but it very much paid off for the former Taoiseach, who left office primarily on his own terms.
