Britain revels in royal nuptials -- but another union is at risk
Tensions within Britain's fragile coalition government will reach their peak on Thursday when the referendum on controversial proposals to change the voting system for the House of Commons takes place.
All the opinion polls indicate that the verdict will be a resounding 'No' to the proposal to switch to a very limited form of proportional representation. If those forecasts turn out to be correct, it will be a disaster for the deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats.
Clegg confessed at the weekend that he "cowers" in the garden to smoke a few furtive cigarettes every day because his wife disapproves of the habit and his young children do not know he does it.
