Enda Kenny must be on some high this weekend. Our poll today looks good for him and not great for his nemesis Lucinda. He was the toast of Davos for the week, where his high fiving and running around looks strangely more appropriate than it does here. Sheryl Sandberg told him to lean in and she patted him on the head and told him he was a great leader of a great country, and Bono said Enda made him proud to be Irish.

It's a great weekend for Enda and a great weekend for this Government. Indeed Enda was even emboldened to tell Bloomberg that he wants five more years to continue sorting things out here. Given the average age of that Cabinet, looking for five more years is akin to saying they should be made government for life, and indeed, that must be how they are feeling now.

Let's hope then that this is not another one of those ecstatic high points that we look back on and cringe. As much as we are convinced now that nothing will ever possibly go wrong for Ireland ever again as long as we live, let's just try and take a leap and imagine looking back on this point in time in some fictional self-flagellatory future.
