Brendan O'Connor: A strange guest list at the Forum
As the nation sat around gutted at 8am yesterday morning, the only thing that comforted us was the fact that, at that very moment, the Diaspora were having their granola and preparing to head down to Dublin Castle again, where they were going to tell us how to solve all our problems.
We love the Diaspora here in Ireland. Just ask Dana, a returned Yank who got such a welcome that she thought she should be President.
This is of course the second such gathering of the Diaspora. The first one, you may recall, happened in Farmleigh in 2009 and as far as anyone can tell, the sum total of what came out of that was that Gabriel Byrne was made a cultural ambassador for Ireland, because of course culture is going to save us all. Byrne, you will recall, is one of the usual suspects. And the usual suspects are all back in Dublin Castle this year.
