Birthday party politics in Dail
Norah White may not be a household name like, say, Enda Kenny, but she's a formidable presence in Leinster House, and even the Taoiseach was loath to let her down.
Norah, who heads up the catering department, celebrated her 65th birthday this week, and the staff threw a surprise party for her. She has overseen the feeding of generations of politicians since she began working in Leinster House at the age of 17 and as one friend said: "Norah knows more about this place and everyone in it than anyone else".
The Taoiseach had promised to drop into the party on Wednesday, but instead found himself detained in the Dail chamber – announcing the resignation of his Justice Minister, to be precise.
