Backlash over the loss of discretionary medical cards has left Government candidates feeling sick

BACKBENCHERS faintly hoped that government party candidates in the elections might surf the wave of public anger over the loss of medical cards by promising free GP care to under-sixes.

But now they are getting a rude awakening on the doorsteps.

For many thousands of voters it is payback time over the manner in which the government has handled the removal of medical cards.
