All deals should be off until the crisis is finally sorted out
Carol Hunt does not accept the Government is powerless to tackle our two-tier society
Last week's note home from school didn't contain the invite to the nativity play we were expecting. Unseasonably bleak, panicked and to the point; it read: "Parents! The recent Budget announced by the Government included cuts to designated disadvantaged (DEIS) schools ... including St Mary's National School" (Fairview, which my daughter attends).
Our 11-year-old was frustrated that she wouldn't be able to continue her French lessons next year, but that's a minor upset compared to what other children will suffer.
"Talk to Aodhain [Deputy O'Riordain]," I advised her. "He's your school's local TD and an ex-DEIS headmaster."
