Aisling O’Connor: Michelle trumps Barbie in face-off of the First Ladies
WITH America going to the polls in less than three weeks' time, the race between President Obama and Mitt Romney is really hotting up -- and we're not talking about Madonna's promise/threat to strip if Barack gets in.
The unofficial theme of the second round of debates held in Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, on Tuesday was 'Women'. Though the candidates fielded questions from undecided voters on taxes, employment, energy, national security and immigration -- the mad dash for female votes and the question of equality were the basis of losses and wins on the night.
At a stage of the campaign for the White House which is, according to the 'New York Times', "coming down not only to a state-by-state fight for territory, but also to one for the allegiance of vital demographic groups, chief among them undecided women", Romney couldn't have picked a worse night to wax lyrical about his super-duper attitude to equal rights for the "binders full of women" out there.
