€1.77bn spend is just the tip of the iceberg in fixing decades-old issue

THE extent of the works and money required to bring our water network up to standard cannot be over-estimated.

The €1.77bn announced by Irish Water in recent days to complete upgrades over the next three years is the tip of the iceberg – 10 times this enormous sum is needed over the coming decades.

And let no one blame the last government, or even the one before that, for creating this mess.
