A young farmer has scooped a whopping €50,000 on a scratch card that had been left in his car for four days.

Kevin Boyle (27), from Aghacashel, Co Leitrim, had left the scratch card in his glove box and "completely forgot" about it.

The farmer said he "nearly had a stroke" when he realised how much he had won on the All Cash card.

“I couldn’t believe it. I had to drive straight home and get the father to double check it,” he said.

“I’ll have a good Christmas, that’s for sure, and I think it will be enough to get a deposit for a house too.”

The young man collected his winnings from Lotto headquarters this morning.

"I don’t buy scratch cards too often, but the woman in front of me bought a scratch card and I said to the guys behind the counter to give me the same," he said.

“And to think it was sitting in the car for four days! It’s bizarre luck!”
