Last Christmas parents had a mad scramble to get their hands on the Elsa Snow Glow doll - the must-have toy all children wanted under the tree on Christmas morning.

But this year the Paw Patrol Paw Patroller was top of the wish list for countless children around the country.

Complete with Ryder and his ATV, it can hold three Paw Patrol vehicles, and also features some unusual sound effects, and a working lift.

Such was the level of demand for the toy, some retailers only had a 'limited supply' in stock as Christmas Eve approached.

With the movie 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' taking the box office by storm, futuristic toys captured the imagination of many young sci-fi fans.

Factories in the North Pole were in overdrive producing interactive figures of Darth Vader, Chewy, and Kylo Ren with a range of training and talk features.

'Our Generation Hair Play Doll Phoebe', also high on the popularity stakes this Christmas, was the toy most younger girls yearned to get their hands on.

Blonde-haired Phoebe comes with her cream dress, crocheted vest, and pink ballet slippers.

She also has hair that grows, eyes that open and close, and "a huggable body."

And there are a range of accessories, including hair extensions, and a hair style guide booklet.

'Shopkins Scoops Ice Cream Truck Playset' was another firm favourite making it to the Santa wish list.

This truck has been described as "icy, creamy, and totally dreamy''.

It also has real moving wheels - and includes two exclusive Shopkins characters.

The brightly coloured Scoops vehicle also has cooler bags, and an umbrella, plus a display stand.

The NERF N-Strike Modulus ECS-10 Blaster hit the target for children aged eight and over.

It has a range of up to 90 feet, and there are almost 30 possible combinations, using the various accessories and removable parts included.

It comes complete with a 10-dart banana clip, and for long-distance accuracy there is a drop grip and a targeting scope. The next best thing to buying a real pet this Christmas was the Little Live Pets Cleverkeet. The interactive, singing, talking, perky parakeet, is a pet bird with a difference.

The uncanny way he can respond to your voice as you watch him come to life was undoubtedly his selling point.

'FurReal Friends StarLily My Magical Unicorn' - an interactive unicorn - also captured young imaginations.

She gets her kicks from being cuddled and groomed, can walk around, flutter her sparkly wings, and light up her horn in a variety of different colours.
