Murder investigation launched following discovery of man’s body in Dublin yesterday

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a 65-year-old man was found dead with severe head and upper body injuries in his home in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, yesterday.

Christopher Hall, who had a medical condition which made him vulnerable, lived alone in Dun Saithne Green in Balbriggan.

Appealing for information this afternoon, Superintendent Paul Franey of Balbriggan Garda Station said Mr Hall was a quiet man who kept to himself.

“Shortly after 2pm yesterday gardaí at Balbriggan received a 999 call to attend at a domestic residence in Dun Saithne Green, Balbriggan where there was a reported male body discovered.

“On arrival, with Fire Brigade personnel already in attendance, uniformed gardaí recovered the body of Christopher Hall (65) downstairs in the house with significant head and upper body injuries.

“Christopher was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Christopher lived alone at the house and was a quiet man who kept himself to himself and was vulnerable due to a medical condition.”

Superintendent Franey said he had commenced a murder investigation into the death of Christopher Hall.

He said that he has appointed a senior investigating officer, and an incident room has been set up in Balbriggan Garda Station.

“The scene of the house remains sealed off this evening.”

He said that the scene was visited last night by Dr Heidi Okkers, locum Assistant State Pathologist.

A post mortem commenced this afternoon at the city morgue in Whitehall. 

Superintendent Franey said that the results of the post mortem will assist in the direction of this investigation.

“The investigation team continue with CCTV and door to door enquiries this afternoon and a family liasion officer has been provided to Christopher’s family.”

Superintendent Franey said he is appealing for privacy for Mr Hall’s family at this time.

“An Garda Siochana will continue to work closely with the community as they come to terms with the violent death of their friend and neighbour Christopher,” he said.

“I am appealing to any person that was in Dun Saithne Green and Crescent, and the wider Dun Saithne Green area from 8pm Tuesday, November 23, to 2pm yesterday Wednesday, 24th,  whether you believe you saw anything of interest or not to contact Balbriggan Garda Station.

“I want to appeal to residents in the area who may have CCTV or dash cam footage if gardaí have not been in contact with you to please come forward with the footage.

“Finally I am appealing to anyone with any information on the murder of Christopher Hall please contact investigating gardai here at Balbriggan Garda station on 01-8020510, the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.”
