Maybe it's just the time of year - with Halloween and all that having been and gone - but there seem to be a lot of one-eyed monsters about this year. Not the gigantic fire-breathing scaly sort though, just metal ones with four wheels, petrol or diesel engines, people inside driving them and - just one headlight that works!
What appears at first glance to be an oncoming motor bike or scooter keeping well in towards the kerb turns out to be a car or, worse still, a truck or tractor with a lot of substantial and unlit metal sticking out into the opposing carriageway. I've had a couple of big frights lately, and I'm not the only one.
Ghoulies , ghosties and long-leggedy beasties are all very well at this time of the year, but things that go bump in the night can do lasting damage.
