Browne's, Castleisland, kerry
lAFTER giving the exterior a quick once-over, we mistook Browne's bar for the local 'trendy' bar. Boy, did we got that one wrong.
This is a very old pub and the Old Commando simply loved it. The ceiling is bare concrete and it hasn't even been skimmed. We were lucky enough to grab a table right in front of the huge solid-fuel stove. Sitting over the fireplace was a portrait of Castleisland native , the late Con Houlihan.
He must have loved this place. The timber floor was clean and the leather barstools were comfy. The bar staff were friendly and had a word for everybody, but we'd expect nothing less from good Kerry folk.
A pint of plain is €3.90 and there is a live 'trad session' here every Friday night. The atmosphere was excellent and we'd definitely recommend a visit.
The toilets were very clean and had a pleasant odour. The black and white wall tiles were very nice and the stainless steel urinal and cubicle were clean.
