Environmental activists interrupted a speech by Environment Minister Richard Bruton at a Forestry Industries Ireland conference in the Botanic Gardens.

Members of Extinction Rebellion stood up and spoke out at the event, forcing Mr Bruton to sit back down in the middle of his speech. They argued that the Government's recent Climate Action Plan did not go far enough in the face of climate change and called on it to "act as if their house was on fire - because it is".

The conference had gathered to hear from experts who believe that forestry has the potential to mitigate 20pc of Ireland's CO2 emissions by 2050.

A later protest then saw a demonstration from the group to protest against commercial gains from forestry in the name of climate action, with two characters battling it out - 'Spirit of the Forest' versus 'The Corporate Man'.
