Yanks a million -- TV3 to show both US and UK X Factor
TV3 scored their highest viewing figures with the X Factor last year.
But The Diary can exclusively reveal that the commercial broadcaster plans on doubling their transmissions of the talent show this autumn by airing both US and UK X Factors.
Having already secured the rights to screen the ITV version from August, TV3 have now acquired the rights to Simon Cowell's much anticipated American version of X Factor, which begins on Fox TV in September "American X Factor is a two- hour show and what everybody is talking about at the moment. You can never assume in this business that you have cracked it, but we hope to have a few people tuning in," Ben Frow's Director Of Programming told me this week.
Although Ben is keeping the rest under wraps, one TV insider said that the licensing arrangement TV3 have for showing X Factor in Ireland, would have helped them secure the rights to the US version at a knock-down price.
However, with American X Factor airing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the States, to keep up, TV3 may have to screen US X Factor on Thursdays and Fridays, along with ITV X Factor on Saturday and Sundays.
One wonders what another TV3 regular Vincent Browne will make of this? A few years ago on his RTE radio programme, he confessed he had "no idea" what X Factor was.
This year he will certainly be finding out.
