'NATIONWIDE' host Mary Kennedy threw on her running shoes to compete in the Kilkenny Carers Mini Marathon.

Kennedy and RTE broadcaster Marty Whelan are both patrons for the Carers Association of Ireland but Kennedy was flying solo yesterday.

Kennedy is a keen amateur runner and completed the 10km mini marathon in just over an hour.

Over 300 individuals took part in the Kilkenny Carers Mini Marathon which is now in its 10th year with all proceeds going to the Carers Association.

The association hopes to raise between €8,000 and €10,000.
