Now you see her: Catriona in town for film premiere
Monaghan lass Catriona Balfe was 'accidentally' in town for the premiere of her breakthrough movie Now You See Me at the Savoy Cinema in Dublin this week. With a red carpet rolled out for the ensemble film, starring Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine among others, the model-turned-actress told The Diary it was completely coincidental that she happened to be back in Ireland.
"I just happened to be here and I'm going back to LA next week, so it was nice that I was around," Catriona (right) said.
"This is all quite a beginning for me, it's all baby steps, but it's cool. I've got a movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stallone next. It's an action, but that's the last thing I'm doing in it," she laughed.
"Every credit you get makes auditioning easier, but it's still such a grind."
Caitriona was not the only leading lady at the showing on Tuesday evening, but she was the best dressed. Saoirse Ronan turned up after enjoying a drink in a neighbouring pub with her dad Paul looking less glam and more gothic than usual.
The 19-year-old was sporting a grunge-style outfit with long, jet-black hair – and had almost reached her seat before passersby realised who she was.
Illusionist Keith Barry hosted the night, which was also attended by Brian Kennedy and Mikey Graham, and he received a standing ovation when his brief scene arrived. Keith was flown over to the US during production of the film to teach Woody Harrelson a few of his mind games. Apparently they went down so well that Woody has now mastered the art and sees it as his current party trick.
