'You have to start saving as soon as you know that a wedding is coming'
Mother-of-two and administrative assistant Tanya Lo (31) from Finglas, Dublin sums up a year of weddings:
* Gifts: €600
* Accommodation: €430
* Outfits and accessories: €1,125
* Make-up/hair/nails: €185
* Drink: €200
* Total: €2,540
"We have three weddings this year and it's costing us an absolute bomb. I don't think we'll be able to take the kids away on holidays because every penny is going to weddings!
"It's a financial strain, especially with money being tight at the moment. My partner's not working and I'm working part-time, but I still love getting an invite. It's an honour to be asked.
"I have a savings club with my neighbour and that helped pay for my brother's wedding, which was a big family do over a weekend in June. The kids had to be suited and booted and my partner needed a new suit, too.
"It's hard to cut costs. I don't like to scrimp on a gift, and with Facebook I wouldn't feel that comfortable always wearing the same outfit.
"I think the only thing you can do is start saving as soon as you know that a wedding is coming and start to cut back on other things."
