Triona McCarthy

Whether you're game for full-on glitter or seek a softer shimmer on the skin, it's time to get on board the glam train that our beauty buff is driving!

Triona's trends

Catrice's High Glow Mineral Lighting Powder

Glow this, glitter that: we're mad for make-up with magical luminosity! If you fancy trying the trend without dipping too far down into your pocket, Catrice's High Glow Mineral Lighting Powder, above, €4.95, is ideal.

The baked powder has a soft, pearly glow that doesn't appear overly shiny on the skin. A fan-shaped brush is a must to deposit this highlighter. Blank Canvas have one for €10.95; it's number F05. BTW, it's also really useful for fanning away eyeshadow fall-out, or excess powder.

There are three main areas to which you should apply highlighter: the cheekbones and temples; the eyes; and on the Cupid's bow of the lips.

If you've converted to the lighter side of life, Mac has delivered four new shades of their original-formula Pinklite Strobe Cream, below, €34 - Peachlite; Silverlite; Redlite; and Goldlite, each of which has the shimmer undertones that its name suggests.

Mac's Pinklite Strobe Cream

Every woman needs at least one sexy lipstick in their seasonal bag of tricks. L'Oreal Paris' Color Riche Gold Obsession Lipstick in Plum Gold, below, €11.99, might just be it! I adore the delicate shimmer, which gives a stylistic nod to that classic, old-school glamour.

L'Oreal Paris' Color Riche Gold Obsession Lipstick in Plum Gold

The touchably soft formula glides on, boosted with omega-3 oils and vitamin E - and sprinklings of 24-carat gold, if you don't mind!

And can we have a final hurrah for the shade that is plum. It's every bit as sultry as red, but without any of that awkward colour-clashing every time you try to pair it with that pink party dress you love too much.

Triona's trick

Typical! An attack of chicken skin - or should that be turkey skin, given the time of year! Why is it that when you go to wear a sleeveless dress, you have that red, bumpy flesh on the tops of your arms? The solution? Waxperts Wonder Pads, €9.99. Rub gently over the afflicted area daily, as the salicylic acid will help soothe and calm the dodgy redness.

A girl can dream

Globe-Trotter For Sisley Vanity Case

If I was a rich bitch, I would buy all my lovely readers this Globe-Trotter For Sisley Vanity Case, above, €1,350, Brown Thomas. The beautiful cream case includes four luscious Sisley products - Black Rose Precious Face Oil; Supremya Eyes At Night; Supremya At Night; All Day All Year. This lot will get your skin into top condition as you take off on your travels, or you could simply sit and home and admire your lovely purchase. If you want to make it a particularly special gift (if only to yourself . . . ), get personal and have it engraved by Globe-Trotter. Vanity indeed! But a welcome sort.

Mane attraction

Naomi Campbell

I'm such a Malteser! I'm dark on the outside, but blonde on the inside! Ha ha! We always want what we can't have!

With the style powerhouse that was the long bob, most of us have had the chop - and, em, perhaps regretted it. A trip to Dublin's Platinum Hair Extensions is definitely in order for those regret-filled moments.

Even supermodel Naomi Campbell, above, would be envious of their newest line of hair wonders. The Platinum Prestige extensions, starting from €299, boast luxurious Italian hair, enhanced with 80pc keratin. They resist breakage and dullness, and can even be treated to highlighting - a joy for the dip-dye lovers.

Replica Filter perfumes in Blur and in Glow

If you were wondering whatever happened to John Galliano, wonder no more. The famous designer has been working away at Maison Margiela, one of my absolute favourite design houses.

I first heard about it on social media - where else? - when a few pics appeared on Instagram. I know, I know, I spend far too much time on my phone.

The might of social media has actually inspired Maison Margiela in the creation of their two new fragrances. The Replica Filter perfumes in Blur, and in Glow, above, €50 each, are so named for the omnipresent use of filters when putting any form of imagery on social media. #NoFilter? Absolutely not! It's a quirky idea, as you'd expect!

The two dry-oil fragrances are designed to be layered and paired with other notes from the Replica range, to basically make your own bespoke signature scent.

They can be sprayed onto the body - and the hair - straight after your shower, for a fresh and glorious feel.

Glow in particular tickles my pickle for this, with its hints of neroli and grapefruit blossom, for a vibrant, ready-to-take-on-the-day scent.

Cult product

Easilocks Hair Hero

In the 'why didn't I think of this myself and make a million' category comes the Easilocks Hair Hero, above, €99; a 3-in-1 styler. It looks like a regular curling tongs, but at the touch of a button, the barrel splits to reveal a hair straightener. Genius! So you can straighten, curl and wave, all with the one tool. There's even a built-in power-plug adapter included in the kit, which can be used internationally.
