Truth serum - wonder creams and celeb beauty regimes
This week, our serum-loving sister rounds up the latest wonder creams, and talks dreams and celeb beauty regimes
I had the Mother of all Mother's Days recently when I broke one of my babies! I had Maxi on my back, giving him a piggyback like I always do, but when I bent down to let him slide from my hip to the floor, as I've done 347 times before, he just went over awkwardly.
Long story, even longer, he has a double feckin' fracture and will be in a cast for a minimum of six weeks. So, yes, life is a little hectic at the moment, and it definitely shows on my face, so I thought I'd write about serums this week, as they are packed with potent ingredients designed to penetrate skin in ways that everyday moisturisers simply can't.
Serums can be expensive, but they're really worth the investment, as they're like your anti-ageing armour, smoothing fine lines, and increasing firmness. Just to be clear though, serums aren't moisturisers, so they need moisturising mates like a day cream and night cream. So use serum first, then wait three to five minutes before applying your moisturiser.
Top tip: Press the serum into your skin using an open palm instead of your fingertips to release the active ingredients. Remember, less is more, as serums are super concentrated; a pea-sized amount is all you need.
Clarins Double Serum, €69, is a perfect example of a powerful product. It hydrates, regenerates, and protects, for younger-looking skin over time.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum, €81, is spendy but this gorgeous, lightweight serum is like a brightening bootcamp for skin, leaving mine velvety soft and super hydrated.
Clinique's Turnaround Revitalizing facial oil, €38, is also deeply hydrating without being greasy, and the gentle exfoliation properties are perfect for those with combination skin.
While-you-were-sleeping tricks are the way to go for me at the mo, so I wash my hair at night, let it dry naturally while I'm tidying up around the house, and before I hop into bed I make two braids on either side.
Will loves going to bed with Heidi! In the morning, when I take out the braids, and comb it with my fingers, I love my Dasiy Lowe-style tousled hair.
What's the story
Once upon a time there was a girl called 3na, who had been through a reallly rough time and had given up on love. One night, she was persuaded to go to a party, and in walked a tall, handsome Gingeneer called Will, and they fell in love . . . and they never got over it!
That's my love story, and four years on, I just know it'll end with a 'happily ever after'.
Now I know every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favourite!
Which leads me on nicely to Love Story, from €60, Chloe's new sexy, spring floral that's also full of love and romance.
The magnificent marriage of sensual orange blossom with stephanotis jasmine, the flower of happiness, makes this an unforgettable, contemporary scent.
I bet you'll fall in love with this fragrance.
As regular readers will know, I'm a Clarisonic devotee, as is supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, apparently. A Clarisonic gently cleanses the skin to remove deep-seated impurities from pores, primes it to better absorb skincare products, and helps reduce the appearance of pore size, fine lines and wrinkles.
So I was super excited when I heard that Clarisonic has partnered exclusively with Espa Spa at The Powerscourt Resort Hotel, in Co Wicklow, to offer a customised luxury Clarisonic facial. The facial begins with an in-depth skin analysis to identify any skin conditions that are not visible to the naked eye, ensuring a treatment that is tailored to your own needs. Every facial includes sonic cleansing with Clarisonic, exfoliation, steam and extraction where necessary, and a treatment specific massage and mask.

Triona's most wanted
"You know that place between sleep and awake, that place where you still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you. That's where I'll be waiting."
I recently read that Peter Pan quote while reading to Maxim before bed and it really stuck in my mind. I've been thinking a lot about my late sister Tricia, as I've been hanging out in Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin with Maxi and his broken leg, and memories of Tricia's three years in hospital have come flooding back.
Friday is also Maxi's and Tricia's birthday. It's such a bittersweet day for me. I'm sure that there will be tears of joy and sadness.
Just as well that Urban Decay have brought out this new Mascara Resurrection €13. This revolutionary serum softens your old mascara so you can reapply a fresh coat. So it's a great product to have in your bag if you're prone to outbursts, or if you're going straight out from work - simply apply this to your lashes, and pop another coat of mascara over it. It also conditions and binds moisture to the hair shaft, thanks to copper powder and panthenol. #winwin
See my photo this week? My make-up took about five minutes tops, while I held my baby girl Seren on my lap and Maxim played with his cars on the floor beside me.
I used my Fuschia Pro Z Palette, €18, which I absolutely adore. You can buy the blank palette, which has a magnet base and a closeable lid, then fill it with your favourite must-have shadows, blushers, bronzers, mineral foundations, pressed powders, concealers and contouring powders, from €5.50.
Pre-made palettes often contain colours I don't like, like myxomatosis pink eyeshadow or Bosco-coloured blush, but not with this lil baby.
A mascara and a lipstick is all you need with it and you're good to glow!
