Triona McCarthy: More is more so embrace excess for success
The 1980s are back, according to our Linda Lusardi-lookalike and beauty guru, who says it's time to embrace excess for on-trend success
While 2016 was all about the 1990s, 2017 is all about the 1980s. So, for my photo, above, this week, I'm doing my best Linda Lusardi impression!
Eh, for those of you who don't know who Linda is, maybe ask an older member of the family!
The 1980s screamed extreme! Big hair, bigger shoulder pads, bold lips and even bolder blusher.
Even Chanel showed cool-AF Saved by the Bell-inspired looks at their SS17 show, while Kenzo did full-on blusher, as loved by 80s icon Cyndi Lauper.
Hey! Don't knock it until you try it.
Mac Cream Colour Base, above, €19, in Premeditated, looks kinda scary in the pot, but, once applied, it gives a glorious flush to flesh. If it's too much for you, then try the colour Improper Copper. This colour suits every skintone, and looks dewy and fresh on the face.
For a total trip down memory lane, wait till you see this 1980s-inspired Clarins 4-Colour All-in-One Pen, below, €36. Isn't it just like one of those four-colour retractable pens you used in your teenage years to scribble Simon Le Bon's name all over your copy and schoolbag? Or maybe that was just me!
This beauty-junkie versh has three different eyeliners - a black, brown and blue shade - as well as a nude lip liner that goes with most lipsticks, or works with a dab of gloss.`
It's perfect for on-the-go gals, or minimalists like me who love multi-functional products.
Why, oh why, oh why, when I need eyeliner the most, like when I'm rushing out the door and I'm late for filming, can I only find a flipping pot of dried up, dust-like gel liner?
#fml or what? The trick is to add any kind of oil - olive, argan, coconut, whatever you can find - then mix it in and voila, your liner is a go-go!
Every 1980s girl had a can of mousse in her bag for pumping up the volume. Don't worry, the Dynasty-style hairstyles aren't on the way back, but cans of foam are!
Let me introduce you to Foamous Vanilla Gorilla Mousse de Parfum, above, €12.74. This is a whole new way to wear perfume.
Simply spray a two-euro-coin-sized amount into your hand and apply to it to your pulse points. It smells great, and it's actually super moisturising, too. I even use it on my hair, as it somehow freshens it up - not in a dry-shampoo way, but more of a deodorant kind of way. So use it on next-day hair.
It's also available in Fairy Berry and Passion Fashion scents, but Vanilla Gorilla is the one for me, as it smells like home-made cookies.Mmmmm!
Olga Kochlewska of Skin by Olga, a new salon, has restored my faith in facials, as I'd had a few 'meh' ones of late.
Olga really understands skin, and she gave me a facial tailored exclusively to my skin.
Olga stocks and uses the exclusive Parisian line Biologique Recherche, which is loved by serious skincare fans, including The Good Wife starJulianna Marguiles, above.
Lotion P50 has a cult following, as it exfoliates and balances for brighter-looking skin.
Olga also used galvanic currents to stimulate my skin, but it's her indepth knowledge of skin and her advice that will have me coming back for more.

"I regret taking such good care of my skin" said no one ever!
Remember that, ladies, no matter what age you are. Or feel!
When I started writing this column back when I was a young wan, I wasn't too bothered about skincare. I mean, being a fully qualified beauty therapist, I knew my AHAs from my BHAs, but it was make-up that I was obsessed with. Like, ridiculously passionate about. Lipstick, lip gloss, liner, lashes . . .
I now realise it was because I was in my 20s and I hadn't a line on my puss. Fast forward a few years and a few babies, and guess what? I'm now completely obsessed with skincare!
I'm not alone -skincare is the big trend in beauty at the moment, whatever age you are, and it remains the highest spend category in beauty.
Vichy's new Idealia Peeling, above, €30, is a must-have for every age. I'm telling all my friends - most are skincare nuts like me - to try it, as it activates the most gentle surface peeling, leaving the skin refreshed and refined. This is how we do exfoliation now, folks - no more manual scrubbing for brighter, more luminous skin.
Simply apply it with a cotton pad at night before your usual night-care routine, but you must use an SPF of 15 or more during the day.
The Glossybox limited-edition collab with La Mer, above, is everything!
Get the Cleansing Micellar Water, Treatment Lotion, Eye Concentrate, Revitalizing Hydrating Serum, Moisturizing Cream and Intensive Revitalizing Mask for only €40 for subscribers, €46 for non-subscribers.
It's worth €130, so it's quite the deal for the price, especially when you factor in how much good it'll do! See glossybox.ie
