Triona McCarthy: After party tips to revive your skin
After that dancing-queen routine the night before, you've got to get your work face on again. Triona McCarthy has top tips to revive your skin and survive the festive season.
Go to sleep like Dracula, so you don't wake up like Frankenstein's monster! My little sister Anna gave me this tip. Basically, you need to sleep on your back so you don't wake up with a scrunched-up face. Alternatively, you could fight wrinkles while catching some zeds with a Beauty Bear Age Defy Pillow by Nurse Jamie, above, €66. It's an innovative anti-ageing pillow that has a unique U-shape designed to cradle the face and neck, improving the quality of your rest and helping to minimise fine lines and creases. Have you a night out planned and you're not feeling your most fabulous? May I suggest popping into one of the Brown Sugar salons - South William Street, Blackrock or Ranelagh, all in Dublin. Nothing makes you feel pretty like having your make-up done professionally.
Amber - who is a dead ringer for Dua Lipa, main photo - is new to the Brown Sugar team in the Ranelagh branch, and this MUA has managed to transform me into a better versh of myself.
Meanwhile, in South William Street, John Bowes is the go-to guy. He is a beauty obsessive. I picked up plenty of tips from this fab fella.
Brown Sugar, South William St, tel: (01) 616-9967; Blackrock, tel: (01) 210-8630; Ranelagh, tel: (01) 485-1988,or see brownsugar.ie
Hot hair on the trot
Recently, I decided to treat myself to this Balmain Cordless Straightener, above, €270, from balmainhair.co.uk, and while it was a super big spend, I have used it loads, so the cost per, eh, straighten is fantastic!
It also cuts down on my blow-dry bill - still justifying the price here, guys - oh, and it even doubles as a curling iron.
It's travel-sized, has three heat settings, and fitted with titanium floating-plate technology so it glides through the hair. The luxe bag it comes in is a beaut, so touch-ups on the trot are hot!
Want a fast fix for fluid retention around the eyes after a night out? Wrap a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel and place it over your eyes for 10 minutes. The cold will stimulate the circulation under your eyes, which will help bring down that fluid. Easy-peasy!
Behold the beauty that is the luxurious Guerlain lipstick, Rouge G de Guerlain, above, with its slide-out lip colour and pop-up mirror. It's now customisable - you choose the case, €15; and then you choose the lipstick shade, €28. It'd make a great stocking filler.
Best of all, the cases are refillable, and I am all about sustainability - something the beauty world is just getting to grips with.
So, good on you, Guerlain!
Triona's top trends
Last night was the best night eva! You danced until dawn and, eh, drank the bar dry.
This morning, ahem, it's a different story altogether. 'I'm never drinking again' is the mantra going around your pounding head. Your parched skin, bloodshot eyes and puffy face make you look like you've been on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! for a week!
It may be the season to be merry, but I've got these terrific tips to help you look and feel fantastic again.
Before you hit the sack, try this little lifesaver, Elemis Peptide 4 Thousand Flower Mask, above, €46.50. It's known in the business as "eight hours sleep in a tube".
It really perks up a party princess.
Use it in the morning after you've showered with something refreshing, such as Cowshed Grumpy Cow Uplifting Bath & Shower Gel, €28, to thoroughly cleanse the remains of last night. The invigorating and refreshing blend of mandarin and grapefruit essential oils are sure to lift your mood.
The next thing to tackle is those bloodshot eyes.
Optrex Eyedrops, below, €9.50, do the trick, and really do whiten your tired eyes.
A couple of drops will instantly relieve and brighten your peepers.
It has been known to fool bosses and other people we have to pretend to be responsible around!
I keep mine in the fridge. Now you're ready to face the world again.
