Fantastic Four: Designer hotels
Nicola Brady rounds up four of the finest design hotels around the globe. Warning: may create wanderlust!
Armani Hotel Milano
Where: Milan, Italy
Why: This chic bolthole is the second hotel designed by Giorgio Armani, following the opening of the brand's ultra-luxe Dubai property, located in the Burj Khalifa. It only seems right that their second is in Milan, the spiritual home of fashion. Here, in the city's Quadrilatero della Moda district, you'll find opulent bedrooms with Armani amenities, a super stylish bar and ristorante, and a spa on the top floor.
How: Rates start at €450 plus VAT. Fly to Milan with Ryanair (ryanair.com)
Palazzo Versace, Australia
Where: Gold Coast, Australia
Why: Billing themselves as the world's first 5-star fashion brand hotel, the Palazzo Versace is a decadent ode to glamour. With a waterfront location on the dazzling Gold Coast, you'll have your choice of spots to enjoy the views, be it a chic cocktail bar or a poolside cabana. As you'd expect, the rooms are decked out with bespoke Versace furnishings, luxe fabrics and airy balconies. The Aurora Spa Retreat is a stunner, too.
How: Rooms start at A$500/€323. Fly to Brisbane with Etihad (etihad.com) or Emirates (emirates.com)
Bulgari Hotel & Residences
Bulgari Hotel, London
Where: London, UK
Why: If you're a label lover, you'll surely be familiar with Knightsbridge. The district is home to some of the hottest shops in London, including Harrods and Harvey Nichols. And now you can sleep in a hotel that's as stylish as the stores lining the streets. The Bulgari Hotel is kitted out with luxurious touches inspired by the label, including custom-made silk curtains and their signature silver.
How: Room rates start at £440/€586 plus VAT. Fly to London with Cityjet (cityjet.com)
Where: London, UK
Why: It was a mix made in style heaven - a collaboration between the timelessly elegant Claridge's hotel and the renowned designer Diane von Furstenberg. She brought her signature style to a number of rooms, including the lavish two-bedroom Grand Piano Suite. It's finished with custom-designed cashmere blankets, bold prints and pieces inspired by her extensive travels.
How: Rates for the Grand Piano Suite start at £6,000/€7,996 plus VAT. Superior rooms are a little more purse friendly at £425/€566 plus VAT. Fly to London with Aer Lingus (aerlingus.com)
