World's best airlines revealed, but how do Ryanair and Aer Lingus rank?

Turkish Airlines has been named best short-haul airline in a poll of over 7,500 Which? members.

The Istanbul-based carrier beat Channel Islands airline Aurigny to the top spot, scoring an average customer rating of 80pc.

It achieved top marks in two categories (food and drink and customer service) and four stars out of five in cabin environment, boarding and seat comfort.

Scandinavian Airlines, Icelandair and Jet2.com completed the top five of the consumer body's report, while Aer Lingus placed 10th with 67pc.

Aer Lingus scored four out of a possible five stars for 'boarding', and three out of five for both 'seat comfort' and 'value for money'.

Ryanair polled 21st in the list (50pc), followed by Iberia on 49pc, while Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling was the lowest entry at 41pc.

Ryanair scored two out of five stars for 'boarding', one out of five for 'seat comfort' and three out of five for 'value for money' in the survey.

"This survey of just 7,500 Which? members is unrepresentative and worthless," a spokesperson for the airline told Independent.ie Travel.

"Ryanair is the world’s largest international airline (119m customers) and is also the world’s fastest growing (up 13m customers in 2016)."

"Real consumers cannot get enough of Ryanair’s low fares and our Always Getting Better customer service," the spokesperson added.

Which? is the largest consumer body in the UK, with over 680,000 members subscribing to its magazine, and 350,000 subscribers online.

The world’s best long-haul carrier, according to its members, is Singapore Airlines - followed by Emirates (82pc) and KLM (78pc).
