Santa fans can swap one kingdom for another this winter, as Sunway announces its first flight from Kerry to Lapland.

The tour operator is to run a one-night package from Farranfore to Rovaniemi, departing December 13 and returning the following day.

The one-night 'Santa’s Sleepover' trip is billed as "a holiday of a lifetime", and includes reindeer sleigh rides, snow-mobile trips and a meeting with the man himself.

Holidaymakers can also spend 24 hours frolicking in a fairytale world of snow-covered forests, take a husky sleigh ride and visit Santa's 'official' post office.

And the price?

One-night trips start from €929 per adult and €829 per child, including flights, accommodation, food, Arctic suits and boots, activities and transfers.

The high prices make Lapland trips one of the more extravagant short breaks families can take from Ireland, but demand appears to be rising.

Sunway already runs one and two-night trips from Dublin, Cork and Shannon, and has also added Ireland West (Knock) for the first time this year.

Trips depart in December, with prices from €899/€799pp (adult/child) for one night, and €1,259/€1,059pp for two nights, excluding tax and insurance.

Lapland holidays are also sold by Falcon Holidays, Magic Vacations, the GoHop Group's and Navan Travel's, among others.
