Ryanair is to fly direct from Shannon to Bristol and Liverpool, adding some 60,000 seats to its 2018 schedule from the airport

The airline will also add more flights to Manchester, it has said.

The Liverpool flights will operate three times weekly (Mon, Weds, Sat) from May 19 until the end of October.

Ryanair's new Shannon-Bristol route will run twice a week (Mon, Thurs) from May 17, while the Manchester service is bumped up to six days weekly.

“Liverpool and Bristol are popular outbound destinations from Shannon but both also have an inbound opportunity for this region," said Shannon Airport Managing Director Andrew Murphy. Tourism Ireland also welcomed the news.

The routes bring to 17 the number of destinations served by Ryanair from Shannon this year, including a new flight to Barcelona (Reus) from March.

Ryanair's investment follows Norwegian's announcement that it will double its frequency from Shannon to Boston Providence from March 27 (from two to four flights weekly), and add a third weekly flight to New York Stewart.

2018 will be a year of growth, said Shannon Group CEO Matthew Thomas.

A flash sale on the new routes sees one-way fares from €19.99 for travel in May and June. They can be booked on to Sunday, February 18.
