Pampering time? This Irish hotel spa has been named best in Europe
European Hospitality Awards
Stressed-out? You can relax in the knowledge that Europe's best hotel spa is right here in Ireland.
That's according to the European Hospitality Awards, where Killarney's ESPA at The Europe won 'Hotel Spa of the Year' at a glittering event in London last week.
The Co. Kerry five-star beat off a dazzling array of competitors, including COCO Spa at JW Marriott Venice and Vair Spa at Borgo Egnazia in Puglia, to claim the win.
Other 2016 award-winners include London's 45 Park Lane (Best Boutique Hotel), Inspira Santa Marta in Lisbon (Best Green Hotel), Belmond's Hotel Caruso (Best Hotel Restaurant) and Amsterdam's Hilton Schiphol (Opening of the Year).
The Europe claimed its award in the same week it was named Best Overall Hotel at the 2016 National Hospitality Awards, which took place in Dublin.
Its success is the latest international vote of confidence in Ireland's resurgent luxury accommodation sector - where dozens of top-end properties have been investing heavily in upgrades and refurbishment after years of recession.
Last month, Ballyfin Demesne in Co. Laois was voted the world's No.1 hotel by readers of the influential US travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveler.
The same awards saw Ashford Castle, Trump International Hotel & Golf Links in Doonbeg, Adare Manor and Dromoland Castle named among Europe's top resorts.
ESPA at The Europe is set on the shores of Lough Lein, with two levels of pampering facilities spread over 4,500m2 of space. Treatments include 50-minute massages from €115, 'Age-Defying' facials from €150, and full-day rituals from €290.
“There are so many top class hotels with amazing spas throughout Europe, and so to win this award reflects hugely on the amazing spa therapists who work so hard on a daily basis to give all of our guests the exceptional spa experience that we are now so well known for,” said the five-star's Spa Manager, Victoria Ceesay.
