New York Post launches 'gossip trail' bus tour
The New York Post has launched a "gossip trail" bus tour based on the newspaper’s scandalous stories about the rich and famous.
The new venture by the daily newspaper will take tourists on a double-decker bus for "a ride on the wild side of the city", visiting locations connected to its most sensational scoops.
It promises that no two journeys will be the same, as each week the tour is updated according to the latest news and gossip from the paper.
Passengers can expect to see the location of Charlie Sheen’s breakdown in 2011, as well as the site where American actress Marla Maples began her affair with Donald Trump in 1990.
Sheen's breakdown began at the Plaza Hotel, which was featured in the film Home Alone 2 and was the venue for the wedding of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The New York Post covered the story with the headline "TRASHED! Sheen in coke and hooker fuelled rampage at The Plaza".
The exterior of the bus is covered with some of the newspaper's most famous headlines, including "Weiner’s Rise and Fall", referring to former US Congressman Anthony Weiner, who posted links to lewd photos of himself on Twitter in 2011.
"Headless Body in Topless Bar" is another, recalling a grisly incident at a strip club in Queens.
"Overall, I want it to be fun for people," said Jesse Angelo, the Post’s publisher. "That’s the whole point. Every tour tells you about The Plaza. None of them tells you about Charlie Sheen."
Partnered with Metro Sightseeing, the tour costs £32 ($49) per person and lasts just over two and a half hours. Tours take place every Thursday at 10am and 2pm, departing from Midtown Manhattan at the corner of 57th and 7th Avenue.
