Kerry is home to four of the best B&Bs in Ireland.

That's according to B&B Ireland's 'B&B of the Year Award', which saw properties from Dingle, Kilgarvan and Cahirciveen feature among 10 finalists this year.

Taobh Coille in Cahirciveen, run by Agnes and John O’Sullivan, took the top gong - Ireland's B&B of the Year for 2019.

Rates at the B&B (taobhcoille.com) start from €35pp in a room with an en suite, with a single supplement of €10. Dinner is also available from €25.

“This award is for all the B&Bs in Ireland who do such a great job," said Agnes O'Sullivan, who received her award at a ceremony in Dublin's Ashling Hotel.

She was "shocked and thrilled" at the news, O'Sullivan says.

“Agnes and her husband John clearly understand and deliver the authentic and genuine Irish welcome while providing an outstanding value for money quality product," said Charlie Boyle of Customer Service Excellence Ireland, who judged and presented the B&B Ireland award.

B&B Ireland's annual award is based on reviews from guests who book and stay through its channels, the representative body says.

While B&Bs have experienced increasing competition in recent years, revenue rose 18pc in 2018 to over €11.2m it adds, and bookings are up 2pc this year.

Reviews show that "for B&B Ireland guests, it's not just about good rooms and great home-cooked breakfasts," said Helena Healy, chief executive of B&B Ireland. "It's also about the welcome, the atmosphere and the local knowledge."

Taobh Coille was selected from 10 finalists, four of whom were from Kerry.
