Dublin among Europe's Top 20 most expensive cities for expats

A new Cost of Living survey ranks Oslo as Europe's most expensive city for expats, with Dublin 18th.

The survey was undertaken by ECA International, a consulting firm providing data and software solutions to companies employing staff abroad.

Dublin ranks 18th on the list, between St. Petersburg and Munich. It is more expensive than Strasbourg, Milan and Outer London, according to the survey.

ECA International's cost of living surveys are carried out in March and September using a basket of day-to-day goods and services commonly purchased by assignees.

The survey found Caracas to be both the world’s most expensive and the cheapest city for expatriates – depending on the exchange rate used.

Kiev, Ukraine is Europe's cheapest location (257th globally), falling more than 60 spots in the ranking. Despite prices having risen significantly over the 12 months, the hryvnia continues to depreciate.

UK locations have become more expensive for many expatriates over the past year, the survey found.
