Ever the opportunist, Ryanair has sprung a flash sale as Storm Emma and the Beast from the East prepare for landing in Ireland.

The 'Beast of a Sale' is offering 25pc off half-a-million seats, the airline says, with lead-in fares from Dublin starting at €12.99 each-way.

The catch? Sale prices must be booked by midnight, tonight.

Flash sale fares are available for travel from March 6 (when the Storm Emma and the Beast from the East will hopefully have departed these shores), to March 23, and again after an Easter blackout period from April 9 to 27 of this year.

As we publish, sale fares include Dublin to several UK airports from €12.99 and €14.99 each-way, destinations like Cologne and Hamburg from €16.99, as well as flights to warmer climes like Malaga (€28.99) and Gran Canaria (€34.41).

They come as several flights and ferry services between Ireland and the UK have been cancelled, upsetting the travel plans of passengers.
