Dreaming of a summer spent Stateside? It's not too late to apply for your J-1 visa, according to the US embassy in Dublin.

A limited number of places on the J-1 Summer Work and Travel (SWP) programme remain available for 2017, the embassy has said, although applications must be submitted by the end of this month.

Last February, the Embassy announced that Ireland had been allocated an additional 2,600 J-1 SWP slots for 2017.

This brings Ireland’s total number of slots to 7,000.

Students seeking a J-1 summer need to act quickly, however. Before submitting for the visa, they must first apply for and be accepted into a exchange visitor program through a designated sponsoring organization.

You can check out more information and links to sponsors and their Irish partner agencies here, or read our JI travel guide

According to a statement, the US Embassy in Dublin understands that Ireland-based Smaller Earth and SAYIT are still accepting applications for the 2017 J-1 summer program until the end of this month (May).

Or 150,000 people have participated in the J-1 to date.
