Aer Lingus has sprung a 48-hour flash sale offering 20pc off European flights until midnight this Saturday, January 9.

The sale fares are available for travel between February 1 and April 30 of this year on European routes from Ireland.

Separately, the airline is running a summer sale in which it says five million seats are up for grabs with lead-in fares to Britain from €19.99 each way.

The summer sale also sees 50pc off select European destinations including Malaga and Faro, with transatlantic fares from €255 each way.

That sale runs until midnight on January 18. See aerlingus.com to book.

A recent Aer Lingus survey found that Amsterdam, Paris and Malaga were amongst the most popular European city breaks for Irish holidaymakers in 2015.

The airline is set to introduce new routes from Dublin to Pisa, Murcia, Montpellier, LA, Newark and Connecticut this year, ans well as from Cork to Dusseldorf.

Aer Lingus sold 1.5 million seats in January 2015, it says.

Ryanair is also in sales mode this month, with fares across its European network available from €9.99 on its website (ryanair.com).

NB: This article has been updated to add a correction - the sale applies to European (and not transatlantic) flights.
