Aer Lingus Regional has announced a new direct service from Cork Airport to Cornwall for summer 2017.

The service will run twice-weekly from May 6 to September 2.

Aer Lingus Regional is operated by Stobart Air. Its service will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with fares now available from €34.99 each-way.

Aer Lingus recently announced over one million seats from Cork Airport for its 2017 summer schedule, including capacity boosts on its Spanish and Portuguese routes, and an additional daily flight to London Heatrow.

Including the new Cornwall route, Aer Lingus Regional will now operate nine services from Cork Airport this summer - carrying over 330,000 passengers.

The figure is a 7pc rise on 2016.

"Today’s news is great for anyone from the South of Ireland planning their summer getaway," said Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport.

The route is also expected to boost inbound tourism.
