Suite talk La Petite Maison, Dordogne

Gemma O'Doherty

If you're after somewhere special to stay in rural France this summer, self-catering specialists The Gascony Secret and Simply Perigord have dozens of new properties on their books.

Their rambling farmhouses, chic manors and rustic guesthouses are dotted throughout the countryside of Dordogne and Gascony in the heart of southwest France. Most have their own pools and are set on large tracts of land.

This snug cottage for two caught our eye. In a tiny hamlet of just three houses near St Laurent-des-Bâtons, La Petite Maison has acres of grounds to explore and a huge swimming pool for lazy summer days.

Inside is one double bedroom, with a sofa bed for two more in the sitting room.

Exposed stonework and beams, an open fireplace and gorgeous views of the countryside add to the romantic feel. From €710 a week based on two sharing.

Other new additions on their books include a former watermill near the quaint village of Bassoues, a picturesque guest cottage with walking trails leading on to the pilgrim routes and a substantial family property close to the pretty village of Belvès.
