Marrakesh is my go-to weekend destination. El Fenn is my favourite place to stay. Located right next to the Medina, this riad is a jewelled treasure trove combined with a tropical paradise, brimming with colour, texture and charm, not to mention tortoises and giant palms!
Upon arrival, I'd explore the terraces and lounge spaces, before taking a seat at El Fenn's cocktail bar and settling in.
Saturday starts with the hotel's traditional Moroccan breakfast. On its tiled rooftop terrace overlooking the city, endless courses of Moroccan delicacies are served on tiled tabletops. This ritual spans an hour or two, before I'd venture into the charming chaos of the Medina.
With a guide, I'd go to one of the large rug suppliers, to select new rugs for client projects, while drinking apple tea.
For a real treat, I'd visit the stunning grounds of the Royal Mansou, which used to be a royal property but is now a luxury hotel. It has a stunning spa if you are in the mood for a hammam.
On Saturday night, I'd venture to La Maison Arabe for dinner, to soak up some Moroccan atmosphere and live music.
On Sunday morning, I'd take time to appreciate the splendour of El Fenn. Then I'd accept the weekend was over, and head home buzzing with inspiration!
