Kelly's Hero: The secret lodge at one of Ireland's most sought-after hotels
Short breaks in Ireland
Reservations can be hard come by at Kelly's Resort, but there are six rooms most people don't know about.
Set on the strand at Rosslare, the four-star hotel and spa is hugely popular with repeat visitors, many of whom book months and even years in advance.
Few are aware of the hotel's six-bedroom lodge, however - a six-bedroom Rosslare landmark at which rooms can often be booked at cheaper rates than the hotel itself.
One of the oldest houses in the village, Leinster Lodge has been open to guests since 1993, but a new refurbishment offers a whole new reason to visit.
The lodge has been renovated by Quilligan International Architects, who have enlarged the bedrooms, bathrooms and extended the building at first floor level "with a metal structure in contrast with the original house,” according to the hotel.
The interiors are re-styled on a nautical beach theme, including specially-commissioned oak furniture, artworks by Ita Quilligan, Arthur Maddison and Mick Mulcahy, and Manterol fleece blankets from Bottom Drawer in Brown Thomas, Dublin.
Natural slate floors, a wood-burning stove and bright seaside colours complement the soft grey-white wall tones, with an antique pine table anchoring the dining area.
And the price?
The lodge has booked up for July and August, but lead-in rates for September and October start from €88pp B&B, €110pp half-board and €127pp full-board.
Guests can enjoy all the facilities of the hotel - including the indoor/outdoor tennis, golf, Aqua Club, gym, daily activities, kids' club and evening entertainment.
