Irish peninsula named one of Europe's 10 best convertible drives
Wild Atlantic Wonder
You know summer is on the way when Condé Nast Traveler publishes a list of Europe's 10 Best Convertible Drives.
"From a summer spin through the mountain passes of the Swiss Alps to a pintxos-fueled drive along Basque country roads, these are some of the most stunning drives in Europe, made even more thrilling with the wind in your hair," writes Kathleen Rellihan.
The list ranges from Norway to the French Riviera, with the Dingle Peninsula ranking fourth - ahead of drives in the Basque Country, Puglia and the Swiss Alps.
Condé Nast's Top 10 Convertible Drives in Europe:
- Côte d'Azur, France
- Western Crete, Greece
- Black Forest High Road, Germany
- Dingle Peninsula, Ireland
- Central Swiss Alps, Switzerland
- Basque Country, Spain
- Southern Dalmatian Coast, Croatia
- Coastal Puglia Region, Italy
- Wine Country to Algarve Beaches, Portugal
- Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway
"Summer in Ireland begs for a slow-paced drive along the southwest Dingle Peninsula," the influential travel publication gushes in its online story.
"Follow the 30-mile coastal loop clockwise alongside craggy cliffs on Slea Road, minding herds of sheep crossing," it continues. Visitors are advised not to miss photo stops at the peninsula's drystone beehive huts and Dunbeg Fort in Ventry.
Dingle is riding a wave of international publicity following the filming of both Top Gear and Star Wars Episode VIII on the peninsula this year.
Last week, Conde Nast named Waterford's Cliff House Hotel as one of the 10 most beautiful clifftop hotels in the world.
