Conde Nast Traveler continues to lovebomb luxury Irish hotels, with Ashford Castle ranked as an ideal place to propose for "Downton Abbey fanatics" in a new Top 10.

Proposals in Ashford Castle may not be of the modest variety.

Midweek packages start from €390 per couple at at the storied five-star hotel, which is in the midst of an expensive refurbishment by its owners, Red Carnation.

If you can afford to stay, however, the castle offers one of the most romantic places in the world to pop the question. Or specifically, the second-most romantic.

That's according to Conde Nast Traveler, which has dubbed the hotel its No.2 'Most Romantic Place in the World to Propose', ahead of Victoria Falls, Central Park and the George V Hotel in Paris, among other loved-up locations.

"Indulge your fantasies of swanning around a turn-of-the-century estate at this sprawling medieval castle," the travel bible gushes.

"The five-star property offers endless opportunities for proposing, including lake cruises and horseback riding. The rooms are equally romantic, particularly the staterooms located in the oldest part of the castle, dating back to the 13th century.

"Original fireplaces, claw-foot bathtubs, and sherry decanters help set the mood."

The Top 10 Most Romantic Places to Propose:

  1. Ladera Hotel, Soufriere, St. Lucia
  2. Ashford Castle, Ireland
  3. Qualia, Hamilton Island, Australia
  4. Bow Bridge, Central Park, NYC

  6. Puerto Mosquito, Vieques, Puerto Rico
  7. Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris
  8. Grotta Palazzese Hotel, Italy

The latest listing comes just weeks after readers of Conde Nast Traveler voted four Irish hotels - including Ashford Castle - onto their list of the Top 10 European Resorts.

The former Guinness estate was also voted 97th best resort in the world.
