1. San Fran made easier
The west coast of America will be within easier reach from next April, when Aer Lingus starts a new service between Dublin and San Francisco.
If you can't wait that long, Trailfinders (01-677 7888; trailfinders.ie) is offering a south-coast fly-drive between San Fran and Las Vegas.
The eight-day stay, which costs €899, takes in Death Valley and Yosemite en route to the Pacific, and includes flights from Dublin via London, three-star hotels and car hire.
2. family-friendly france
If you're taking the children to France this summer but have put booking on the long finger, Pavillon de la Reine, a luxury hotel in the Marais, Paris, is a haven for families. It's set in a quiet residential area, with a playground across the road.

3. rustic getaway
If you're after something more rural, The Gascony Secret has a selection of stunning yet affordable self-catering properties across this ancient region of southwest France.
Pasterou is a four-bedroom farmhouse in a hamlet in the Gers, with views of the surrounding countryside, a swimming pool, and many lakes and sandy beaches nearby.

4. prague for less

5. five-star madeira
