Nicola Brady

Nicola Brady picks four romantic destinations to enjoy a small, but perfectly formed, honeymoon.

Rome, Italy

Why: What better place to celebrate a marriage than the Eternal City? Portrait Roma (above) is one of the most romantic hotels in town, home to an incredible terrace with views out over the entire city. The Spanish Steps are right next door, so when the sun sets, you can join the young lovers who congregate there, hand in hand. The hotel was designed as an ode to the elegance of Italy in the 1950s, so bring along a silk scarf and big shades to get into the spirit of things.

How: Rates start at €450, ex. taxes. Fly to Rome with Aer Lingus (

St Ives, UK

Black Moon, St. Ives

Black Moon, Cornwall

Why: Cornwall has become a lot easier for us to get to, thanks to direct flights to Newquay. Make the most of the new route with a getaway to St Ives, a charmingly-pretty beach town just made for romantic walks by the sea. Beachspoke offers some seriously sexy cottage rentals in the area, perfect for a mini-moon. Black Moon is perhaps the most impressive, with a glass floor revealing your cave/snug room below, as the waves break beyond your huge window.

How: Rates at Black Moon start at £660 (€922) for a two-night weekend. Fly to Newquay with Aer Lingus (

Paris, France

The Rue des Archives II, Paris

Rue des Archives II

Why: It might seem a little obvious, but clichés exist for a reason. You can't beat Paris for a classically romantic break (the fact it's so close is a big bonus). If you can only spare a few days for a mini-moon, it's a perfect option. Opt for an apartment for some privacy - One Fine Stay has a series of amazing properties on its books, which are rented out by their stylish owners. The Rue des Archives II is a chic, spacious option in the heart of the buzzing Marais district.

How: Rates at Rue des Archives II start at €187 per night. Fly to Paris with Air France (

Marrakech, Morocco

Boutique Souk, Marrakech

Riad El Fenn, Marrakech

Why: With sultry evenings and tangles of tiny streets, Marrakech is one of the most exotic cities you can reach in less than four hours. The folks at Boutique Souk are experts in all things Morocco, and can organise every element of your mini-moon. Recommended is Riad El Fenn, Vanessa Branson's luxury boutique hotel in the Medina. There you'll find a pool, traditional hammam and a rooftop bar.

How: Boutique Souk offers a five-day mini-moon at Riad El Fenn from €1,655 per couple, inc. breakfast, transfers, activities and treatments. Fly to Marrakech with Ryanair (
